Digital minimalism is not about giving up your phone. It is about making sure every app on it earns its place. Here is a Canadian-friendly 30-day starter plan informed by Cal Newport’s framework.
Days 1–7: remove
Delete every app you have not used in 30 days. Delete every news app — move to a single weekly digest. Remove social media from the phone; keep browser access only.
Days 8–21: replace
For every removed app, identify the offline activity that should take its place. Reading, walking, calling a friend, an actual board game.
Days 22–30: rebuild
Add back only the apps you genuinely missed. Most people find two or three make the cut. That is the point.
The bottom line
30 days. Three phases. Most Canadians find their phone becomes a tool again instead of the centre of gravity.
